Introduction Gay-Straight Alliance is an organization on the campus of Savannah State university. This organization is a social organization where any student of sexual orientation can come together in a nonjudgment environment and come to find understanding of each other. The equality of all students is very important to the GSA organization. Not only do the students of the LGBT community receives support from the students with the same sexual orientation as them, they also receive support from those of straight sexual orientation. GSA has also partners with different organization on campus to further help LGBT students. Organizations such as; Phi Beta Sigma, Delta Sigma Theta, etc. Along with partnering with different organization they partnered with the different departments on the campus. Office of Counseling and Disability services, and the Social Sciences department have played a big role when working with GSA. With our partnering with others it helped bring the Savannah State University co mmunity together. As whole GSA has surprised students with the different events that held during the spring semester of 2014. From their Volunteering at the Rock n Roll Race to their participation in pride, and also their very own NOH8 support events. GSA definitely made a big statement in supporting the LGBT community and making it a safe place for its students. Yet another possibility is no ââ¬Å"peopleâ⬠word at all, as in ââ¬Å"die Amerikanerâ⬠for ââ¬Å"the American people. In general, the three main words are not interchangeable, and in most cases using one of them instead of the correct one will cause confusion, laughter, or both. Of all the terms, it isà Leuteà that gets used too often and most inappropriately. Lets take a look at each German word for ââ¬Å"people.â⬠Leute This is a common informal term for ââ¬Å"peopleâ⬠in general. It is a word that only exists in the plural. (The singular ofà Leuteà isà die/eine Person.) You use it to speak of people in an informal, general sense:à Leute von heuteà (people of today),à die Leute, die ich kenneà (the people I know). In everyday speech,à Leuteà is sometimes used in place ofà Menschen:à die Leute/Menschen in meiner Stadtà (the people in my town). But never useà Leuteà orà Menschenà after an adjective of nationality.à A German-speaker would never say ââ¬Å"die deutschen Leuteâ⬠for ââ¬Å"the German peopleâ⬠! In such cases, you should just say ââ¬Å"die Deutschenâ⬠or ââ¬Å"das deutsche Volk.â⬠It is wise to think twice before usingà Leuteà in a sentence since it tends to be overused and misused by German-learners. Menschen This is a more formal term for ââ¬Å"people.â⬠It is a word that refers to people as individual ââ¬Å"human beings.â⬠à Ein Menschà is a human being;à der Menschà is ââ¬Å"manâ⬠or ââ¬Å"mankind.â⬠(Think of the Yiddish expression ââ¬Å"Hes a mensch,â⬠i.e., a real person, a genuine human being, a good guy.) In the plural,à Menschenà are human beings or people. You useà Menschenà when youre talking about people or personnel in a company (die Menschen von IBM, the people of IBM) or people in a particular place (in Zentralamerika hungern die Menschen, people in Central America are going hungry). Volk This German people term is used in a very limited, specialized way. It is the only word that should be used when speaking of people as a nation, a community, a regional group, or ââ¬Å"we, the people.â⬠In some situations,à das Volkà is translated as ââ¬Å"nation,â⬠as inà der Và ¶lkerbund, the League of Nations.à Volkà is usually a collective singular noun, but it can also be used in the formal plural sense of ââ¬Å"peoples,â⬠as in the famous quotation: ââ¬Å"Ihr Và ¶lker der Welt...â⬠The inscription above the entrance to the Germanà Reichstagà (parliament) reads: ââ¬Å"DEM DEUTSCHEN VOLKE,â⬠ââ¬Å"To the German People.â⬠(The -eà ending onà Volkà is a traditional dative ending, still seen in common expressions such asà zu Hause, but no longer required in modern German.) When one thinks of love, he thinks of affection towards another person, but in the case of Matthew 5-7, Rumi, and Mo Tzu; love goes beyond loving another person. There are three ways love is interpreted in these texts: love for God, love for yourself, and love for others. Matthew 5-7 talks the importance of becoming self-successful before helping others, while Rumi discusses the need to love ourselves and become wiser. Mo Tzu argues that we should love others, work together, and treat each other equally to live in a better world. When people talk about love, it means putting that persons needs before yours, but these texts show that worshipping a God or higher power comes before everything else. Each of the texts gives their own interpretation on love, but they can be looked at deeper than just the superficial meaning. LITERATURE REVIEW Cohen and Hanno (1993) conducted a survey with 287 students who had either declared or intended to declare themselves as accounting majors and those who had either declared or intended to declare themselves as majors in a business field other than accounting (e. g. marketing, finance, general management, hotel management, à © 2011 The Clute Institute 29 American Journal of Business Education ââ¬â October 2011 Volume 4, Number 10 economics). The results indicated that non-accounting majors may choose a major other than accounting because they believe accounting to be too number-oriented and boring. The studentsââ¬â¢ choice of a major was consistent with their referenced opinions about majors. Success in introductory courses, skills and a background in math, as well as the workload in accounting courses were also identified as factors that facilitated or hindered choosing accounting as a major. Mauldin et al. (2000) investigated studentsââ¬â¢ choices of an accounting major. They found that the largest percentage of students chose accounting as their major during the first accounting course in college (41 percent), followed by selection during high school (34 percent). Among referents, the Accounting Principles instructor was the most influential one. The twelve factors that influenced the studentsââ¬â¢ decisions included career opportunities, interest in the subject, instructor, money, parents, enjoyment, previous experience, life style offered because of the career, challenge, prestige, usefulness in operating a business, and other students. Kim et al. , (2002) conducted a study on business majors (e. . accounting, finance, general business, management, marketing, MIS/CIS, and double major). They discovered that the top five reasons for choosing a major were: interest in a career associated with the major, good job opportunities, ââ¬Å"good fitâ⬠with respondentsââ¬â¢ abilities, a desire to run a business some day, and projected earnings in the related career. The least selected reasons for choosing a major were the reputation of the major at the university, the perceived quality of instruction, the parentsââ¬â¢ influence, the amount and type of promotional information, and the influence of friends. Yayla and Cengiz, (2005) determined five factors that play a role in choosing an accounting career. Those factors were ââ¬Å"respondentsââ¬â¢ own choiceâ⬠, ââ¬Å"family and close environment effectâ⬠, ââ¬Å"interesting professionâ⬠, ââ¬Å"earnings expectationsâ⬠, and ââ¬Å"job opportunitiesâ⬠. Dinc (2008) utilized factor analysis and determined the following seven main factors in deciding career choice: high earnings expectations, career expectations, job experience, knowledge and ability, family environment, social status, and education environment. Factors as recounted above about choosing a career in accounting field or not can be divided into two main groups: internal and external factors. Internal factors may include personal abilities, mathematical competency, interest in the field, etc. These factors do not depend on the studentsââ¬â¢ geographical area. External factors, such as job opportunities, level of earnings a career offers, and the social status provided by the career are variable in various geographical areas. For example, while there are good job opportunities in one geographical area, another geographical area may not offer the same opportunities. SCOPE AND METHODOLOGY A number of researchers utilized a survey method for investigating the studentsââ¬â¢ choices of accounting as major (Cohen and Hanno, 1993; Allen, 2004; Tan and Laswad, 2006; Dinc, 2008). The survey was applied only to the students who took an introductory financial accounting course. Introductory accounting courses which are taught in business majors are important in making decisions regarding studentsââ¬â¢ both education and postgraduate lives (Gungormus and Uyar, 2010, p. 444). In order to determine the studentsââ¬â¢ career choices in relation to accounting, we conducted a survey of 320 students in business programs (e. . accounting, foreign trade, banking, management, office management) who took the introductory financial accounting course in the two-year Istanbul Vocational School of Fatih University. Of the 320 students, 179 completed the questionnaire (55. 94 percent). Course grades were obtained from the student information system. The range and mean for grades are 0-4 and 1. 94 respectively. Of the 179 respondents, 69 plan to work in the accounting field (38. 5 percent), and 110 plan to work in a nonaccounting field. Deviation 1. 9 RESULTS AND DISCUSSION Reasons for Choosing or Not Choosing a Career in Accounting Field In the survey, the question of ââ¬Å"do you plan to work in the accounting field? â⬠was asked. 69 out of 179 students answered ââ¬Å"yesâ⬠to this question. If they answered ââ¬Å"yesâ⬠, the question ââ¬Å"why do you plan to work in the accounting field? â⬠was asked. Nine potential fac tors were provided to the respondents (Table 2) based on prior studies (Cohen and Hanno, 1993; Hermanson and Hermanson, 1995; Adams et al. , 1994; Allen, 2004; Mauldin et al. , 2000; Wooten, 1998; Tan and Laswad, 2006). Among the reasons, good job opportunities (50. 72 percent), interest in accounting field (46. 38 percent), good fit with respondent abilities (33. 33 percent), suitability for independent working (24. 64), and family influence (23. 19) had the highest percentages. However, the desire to run a business some day (20. 29 percent), expectations of high earnings (18. 84 percent), the social status offered by the chosen career (10. 14 percent), and the influence of friends and relatives (2. 90 percent) were the lowest reasons selected for choosing a career in accounting. The findings confirm Kim et al. (2002) in some part, who found the three top reasons for choosing an accounting major were interest in a career associated with the major, good job opportunities, andââ¬Å"good fitâ⬠with the respondentsââ¬â¢ abilities. In both studies, the influence of friends was the least selected reason. On the other hand, in this study, the influence of parents had a higher percentage than in t he study of Kim et al. (2002). These findings are also parallel to the findings of Mauldin et al. (2000) in part. For example, career opportunity, interest in the subject, and the influence of parents were among the top five reasons as in this study. However, money is not a factor within the top five reasons in this study, contrary to Mauldin et al. (2000). Life style or status that the job offers is not chosen within the top five reasons in both studies. Those who answered ââ¬Å"noâ⬠to the question of ââ¬Å"do you plan to work in the accounting field? â⬠were asked for their reasons (Table 3). Eight potential reasons were provided to the respondents based on prior studies (Tan and Laswad, 2006; Allen, 2004; Glass and Oakley, 2003; Cohen and Hanno, 1993). Among the choices, other fields offer wider job opportunities (48. 8 percent), stressful and tiring profession (40 percent), boring nature of accounting profession (32. 73 percent), and other fields offer higher earnings (32. 73 percent) were the highest selections. You can correct this by rewriting the sentence as it is listed in the opening paragraph, or you can reconstruct it so that it serves as the subject for all three phases: When you come across faulty parallelism, it clangs off the ear, it destroys written sentences, and it muddies any intention the author may have had. In this scene Carlson starts moaning about how much Candys old dog smells. He then suggests that Candy should shoot him and even offers to do it himself. But it is the things that Carlson says in order to justify himself that are important for the readers because it helps us to see why George decided to do what he did at the end of the book. For example, when Carlson says, This old dog, just suffers hisself all the time, and you aint been kind to him, keeping him alive, when he is trying to convince Candy that it is almost cruel to make him live life any longer. Carlson also describes how Candy could kill the dog in a quick, humane way. He says, shoot him right in the back of the head hed never know what hit him. This is particularly important because George kills Lennie in this exact way. It is where he got the idea that mercy killing was even an option. Slim is then asked to give his opinion and he agrees with Carlson saying, That dog aint no good to himself. As Slim is the only person on the ranch to have natural authority, and his opinions were law. Candy reluctantly agrees to let Carlson shoot his dog. If this scene was left out we would not understand why George would even consider killing Lennie and we would get the impression that George carried it out in cold blood and did not care. The scene should be set in a dimly lit, dark setting. The darkness would help to emphasize the end of life. Carlson should be talking abruptly and quickly showing that he is not thinking about Candys feelings and is unaware of how much the dog means to Candy. Slim in contrast should be taking is time over his speech, showing that he wants this to be as painless as it can be for Candy. He shows that he cares when he instructs Carlson to take a shovel, so that he can bury the dog so Candy wont have to see his dog in the morning. The Fight Scene Another important scene is the fight between Curley and Lennie. In this scene Curley has just accused Slim of being with his wife and in return Slim shouts back at him. Carlson and Candy take advantage of the situation by insulting Curley. Curley feels degraded and wants to take it out on someone. Lennie is there and is the perfect person because Curley being small always feels as though he has something to prove and a real chip on his shoulder towards bigger guys. Lennie is smiling at the thought of the dream of living off the fat of the land and Curley uses it as an opportunity to pick a fight. He says, What the hell you laughin at? and punches Lennies face making his nose bleed. Lennie is described as being too frightened to defend himself. But under the instruction of George, Lennie grabs Curleys hand and cannot let go, even with George slapping him round the face telling him to. Lennie feels guilty afterwards and he shows it when he says, I didnt wanta hurt him, and I didnt mean no harm. It is this scene that enables us to see the extent of Lennies strength and how dangerous it can be when combined with such a simple mind. The scene gives us a clue towards the main plot. Without this scene we would not realise what a true accident Curleys wifes death was and the reader would not feel as sorry for Lennie as they do. It would make the ending much less effective.

Franklin Delanor Roosevelt (FDR) is responsible for creating and establishing the New Deal which saved the United States after the Great Depression. The New Deal was important because the United States was in a major financial hole and had to get itself out. After the stock market crashed in 1929 there were millions of people who were struggling just to get something to eat and have a roof to sleep under. The program that FDR created made it possible for the U.S. to get up and dust itself off. It created jobs and many organizations that were responsible for a lot of the public works and state department organizations that we still use today. The new deal also set the U.S. up for success if something financially wrong happened again by establishing many fail safes such as federal bank guarantees, stock regulations, social security, unemployment and other programs that would allow this country to recover. These programs allowed unemployment to rise from a whopping 25% to 1.9% giving millions of Americans the chance to start over. Hansberry’s play “A Raisin in the Sun”
Hansberry's play ââ¬Å"A Raisin in the Sunâ⬠is the story of the Youngers, a poor African- American family in the 1940s. All of the Youngers have important dreams that they wish to realize but due to their economic status and the abundant racism of the time, and they are forced to put aside these dreams. However, due to the insurance money from ââ¬Å"Big Walterâ⬠ââ¬Ës death, they have a chance to overcome these obstacles and achieve their dreams. Beneatha is a good example of a character whose dreams have been deferred. Beneatha dreams of being a doctor and throughout the play, struggles to determine her identity as a well-educated black woman. Beneatha is a collage student and is obviously the best educated member of the Younger family. Her education is very important to her and she hopes to one day become a doctor. Beneatha believes in education as a means to understanding and self-fulfillment through knowledge and wisdom. It was rare at this time to find a poor well-educated black woman with such high ambitions. Beneatha took pride in this fact and often flaunted her intelligence to her family. Mama, knowing how much her education meant to her, instructed Walter to save $3000 for Beneatha's medical schooling. When it was discovered that Walter had invested the money in his liquor store scheme and Willy had run off with all the money, Beneatha was devastated. She had lost all hope and even though her spirits may have been lifted after her talk with Asagai in act III and the chance to move into a new house, it seems that Beneatha will never realize this dream. Another major dream that Beneatha wants is to have her own identity. In the play she does this by trying to gain a better grasp on her cultural identity as an African-American. The rest of her family, after living in America for five generations, seem out of touch with their African heritage, so Beneatha turns to Asagai, a native Nigerian, to see if he can supply the lost part of herself. Beneatha dresses in Nigerian garb, dances to African music, and lets her hair grow naturally in an attempt to become more African. Beneatha does this in part because she sincerely wants to identify herself as an Africa-American but she also does it in protest of what she calls an ââ¬Å"oppressiveâ⬠white culture. Beneatha also dreamed of overcoming not only the prejudice against blacks, but also the prejudice against women. In the 1940s, it was common belief that a woman's place was at home and it was very rare for any woman to become a doctor. Even Walter suggests that she become a nurse, a traditionally woman's job, instead. Beneatha was an early feminist and did not take the traditionally submissive role of a woman. Instead, she spoke up against anything she perceived as an injustice. She became particularly passionate about freeing the Africans from French and English colonizers after talking to Asagai. In the play ââ¬Å"A Raisin in the Sun,â⬠all of the main characters were guided by their dreams, and the same is true for Beneatha. In the play, Beneatha struggles to create her own identity while battling against the abundant prejudice of the day. While she partially succeeds at creating her own identity, her dreams of becoming a doctor fall short when Walter losses the necessary money. However, Beneatha is a strong, intelligent woman and will most likely succeed later in life.

In the Lord of the Flies, the transition the three young boys make into adulthood is evident as their significance and their newfound identity becomes more pronounced. Simonââ¬â¢s particular incident involves his encounter with the ââ¬ËLord of the Fliesââ¬â¢, where he comes to terms with the innate evil that resides within all humanity, causing him to be an ambassador for self-realization. In a world that demands individuals to conduct themselves according to the values and morals imposed by the society, it is often difficult to find those that exhibit an innate sense of compassion. Simon is a character that proves to be ââ¬Ëone with natureââ¬â¢ and shows an immediate liking to his new environment. Therefore, when the others resorted to savagery, he still had not lost his gentleness and compassion. His encounter with the Lord of the Flies exposes the truth about the beast and as a result, causes his consciousness to evolve. This reveals his true nature as a kindhearted and an honest person. As promised, the Lord of the Flies did have fun with him, ultimately causing his death in attempts of spreading the truth amongst the other boys.
